Cremation is a technique of body disposition that is different from traditional burial in a coffin or casket. Cremains are gases, ashes, and mineral pieces that are converted to basic chemical compounds after being placed in a cremation container and burnt in an industrial furnace. The entire cremation process takes around three hours, however, the family will have to wait longer to get the remains. The majority of state regulations require that only one body be burned at a time, and identification is accomplished by a tightly controlled labelling system. Any medical equipment or implants, such as pacemakers, are removed once the remains are turned over to the crematory. Afterwards, items like silicone or metal implants may need to be separated from the remains.
